JOB SUMMARYThe House Supervisor at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for providing effective leadership, managing nursing units, and ensuring adequate staffing levels. They act as a clinical resource for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, respond to clinical emergencies, and collaborate with the transfer center to assign patients to nursing units. As a supervisor, this role oversees and guides a team of employees to ensure efficient task completion, promoting teamwork and effective coordination.

Demonstrates effective leadership skills and serves as a role model for staff and peers. - Management
:
Organizes and manages nursing service activities of each nursing unit within the main unit in compliance with the medical plan of care; coordinates with Transfer Center regarding appropriate assignment of patients to nursing units. - Supervision
:
Responsible for evaluating work performance of nursing service employees in terms of patient care, unit relations, and efficiency of service. - Training
:
Assures adequately trained staff for safe and effective care working in conjunction with the staffing office and nurse managers. - Budget
:
Considers budgetary staffing allowances when making staffing assignments. - Clinical
:
Functions as a clinical resource person for pediatric and adolescent patients; provides a variety of clinical functions/nursing skills to adult and geriatric patients; responds to codes and other clinical emergencies.
Education
- Associate's Degree of Science in Nursing - Required
- Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing - Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure (Required)
- ACLS (Required upon hire)
- PALS (Required upon hire)
- Current CPR certification (Required upon hire)
Work Experience
- 4-6 years of experience required; prior knowledge and experience in supervision (3-5 years preferred)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Maintain current knowledge of nursing standards of practice, regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Meet continuing education requirements.
- Provide age-appropriate care for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Supervise staffing of nursing personnel on each nursing unit for each tour of duty.
- Evaluate work performance and conduct yearly performance appraisals of assigned employees.
- Direct and implement nursing plan of care.
- Collaborate with Transfer Center and unit charge nurses to determine appropriate bed assignments.
- Direct bed assignments during periods of high census and bed alerts.
- Attend nursing management meetings to discuss operations, needs, and improvement programs.
- Complete required leadership classes.
- Serve on committees as appointed by Vice President or Director.
- Communicate effectively with all personnel of nursing units.
- Adjust to and demonstrate effective leadership within a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to all customers/co-workers; in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
Responsibility includes financial and budgetary duties such as controlling budgets, approving expenditures, and managing assets to support nursing operations.
