Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs skilled work of journeyman level in constructing, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution and transmission systems.

Tasks:

  • Climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
  • Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures.
  • Dig holes, using augers and set poles, using cranes and power equipment.
  • Attach cross-arms, insulators, and auxiliary equipment to poles prior to installing them.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires and related equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers and switches.
  • Trims trees.
  • Stands a regularly scheduled standby watch.
  • Installs Christmas decorations and decorations for special events.
  • Works in adverse weather conditions.
  • Deals with the public in a manner that positively promotes the image of the City and handles complaints tactfully.

Such call to respond and assist may involve those activities to his/her regular job responsibilities and incorporate other non-job-related duties as necessary and required of an employee. An employee’s response to these matters may require the working of unusual, long hours over an extended period with infrequent breaks or rest periods.
