Infection Control Coordinator – William Newton Hospital

Job Summary: The Infection Control Coordinator is responsible for the identification, investigation, reporting, prevention, and control of healthcare‑associated infections among patients and personnel. They work with the Infection Control Committee to implement culture collection, isolation precautions, and deliver in‑service programs related to infection prevention and control.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of infection control processes in the healthcare setting.
- Prepares statistics and reports to monitor infection trends.
- Applies CDC standard and isolation precautions.
- Maintains current knowledge through continuing education.
- Teaches infection control principles to staff.
- Develops policies and procedures.
- Implements systems to identify, investigate, report, and prevent HAIs.
- Reviews culture results to identify trends and origins.
- Consults with nurses and medical staff regarding isolation and infection prevention.
- Investigates infections above thresholds or clusters.
- Initiates cultures and appropriate isolation precautions.
- Provides patient care with a focus on safety and minimizing errors.
- Considers financial impact of care decisions.
- Conducts quarterly Infection Control Committee meetings.
- Prepares reports for the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
- Assists with in‑service education throughout the hospital.
- Completes required public health reports.
- Maintains accurate HAI records.
- Monitors appropriate use of germicides and disinfectants.
- Evaluates asepsis, sterilization, and disinfection methods.
- Revises policies and procedures as needed.
- Communicates infection control activities to leadership and staff.
- Conducts special studies and implements findings.
- Collaborates on manual policy approval.
- Provides targeted surveillance indicators annually.
- Stays current on infection control practices.
- Establishes professional relationships with physicians and nurses.
- Designs and implements new methods to improve program outcomes.
- Adheres to dress code; appearance neat and clean.
- Completes annual education requirements.
- Maintains all state, federal, and CMS regulations.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient and employee information.
- Reports for work on time and completes work within designated time.
- Wears identification while on duty and uses computerized punch‑time system correctly.
- Performs staff in‑services on infection control.
- Attends committee meetings as required.
- Communicates with all departments.
- Initiates duties appropriately and sets independent priorities.
- Strives to reduce HAIs and improve patient outcomes.
- Attends seminars, conferences, and professional organizations.
- Participates in performance improvement and quality improvement activities.
- Represents the organization professionally.
- Complies with ethical business practices.
- Communicates mission, vision, ethics, and core values of the hospital.
- Engages in community education on infection control.
- Maintains cooperative relationships with physicians, departments, and staff.
- Participates in CQI activities.
- Ensures compliance with safety and infection control policies.
- Communicates administrative directives and encourages meetings.
- Licensed nurse or professional medical person with appropriate credentials in microbiology or related field.
- Two years of clinical nursing experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, aseptic technique, and current practices.
Salary & Benefits: Minimum base salary $10.00–$12.00 per hour, with $10,000 sign‑on bonus available.
Location: Arkansas City, Kansas.
