Galaxy Technologies is seeking an experienced Tool Builder with at least 5 years of experience to design, build, and maintain precision tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges for the aerospace, defense, and space industries. The role involves layout management, fabrication, assembly, and repair of tooling used in the manufacturing of aircraft parts and assemblies.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and repair precision tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
- Interpret blueprints and model‑based definition (MBD) models, applying GD&T.
- Collaborate with engineers and team members to develop innovative tooling solutions.
- Create tooling components using computer‑aided design (CAD) software.
- Set up and operate machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders.
- Troubleshoot tooling and machinery issues, identifying and resolving problems independently.
- Operate cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery safely and effectively.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers) for quality control.
- Perform quality inspections to ensure finished tools meet specifications.
- Prepare sketches and detailed fabrication instructions for tasks performed by others.
- Work with materials such as aluminum, steel, and graphite using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment for finishing tasks.
- Track job hours and status, ensuring accurate reporting.
- Maintain compliance with all safety standards and operational procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience setting up and operating lathes, Bridge ports, surface grinders, and other machine tools.
- 5+ years of experience using inspection gauges and equipment such as micrometers and calipers.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&T.
- Strong understanding of customer requirements and industry specifications.
- Ability to manage projects independently from start to finish with minimal supervision.
- Solid mathematical skills for precision measurement and fabrication.
- Capability to prepare detailed fabrication and machining instructions for team members.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to work varied shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate with management to meet production deadlines.
Employees must talk, hear, stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, and reach. Frequent lifting and moving up to 50 pounds are required. Vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are essential.
The work environment is usually a well‑lit, heated or air‑conditioned indoor setting with adequate ventilation. Noise levels are frequently high. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, and foot protection is required.
