Job Overview
The Wildlife Educator for the west region will be serving in Reno, Nevada, with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The schedule is Monday‑Friday 8 am‑4 pm; hours will vary by season, and many weekends will be required. Term of service is a three‑quarter term (1,200 hours). Start date 1/16/2026; end date 6/31/2026. Monthly stipend $2,066.66 and an education award upon successful completion of the term $5,176.50.
The mission is to protect, conserve, manage, and restore wildlife and its habitat for the aesthetic, scientific, educational, recreational, and economic benefits to citizens of Nevada and the United States, and to promote the safety of persons using vessels on the waters of Nevada.
- The Wildlife Educator will be an essential member of the Conservation Education team and support field trips and community programming at Oxbow Nature Study Area.
- Facilitate state‑wide wildlife education programming in classrooms and other Conservation Education programming.
- Develop and facilitate regional outdoor education events demonstrating archery, fishing, and hunting activities for families.
- Assist with the Urban Wildlife Education Program that extends throughout the northwest region of Nevada.
- Facilitate, evaluate, and fine‑tune existing programming; develop new programs; train volunteers; assist on volunteer projects; and monitor habitat area in and around Oxbow.
