The Opportunity:We are seeking a sharp, proactive Assistant Controller to partner directly with our Controller and help scale the financial operations of a rapidly growing facilities maintenance leader. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role perfect for someone who wants broad exposure, ownership of the close process, and a defined path to future leadership.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee and support core accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, job costing, and general ledger.
- Lead key portions of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close: journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis, and work papers.
- Prepare accurate internal financial reporting packages, KPI dashboards, variance analysis, and ad-hoc analyses for executive and operational leadership.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls; ensure full compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Manage audit and tax preparation deliverables and serve as primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Collaborate with operations on job costing, contract profitability, billing accuracy, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Drive process improvement and system optimization initiatives (automation, ERP upgrades, workflow streamlining).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 1–3 years of progressive accounting experience (public accounting or industry).
- CPA license or active candidacy strongly preferred.
- Strong command of GAAP and standard accounting practices.
- Hands-on experience with accounting/ERP systems such as Infor, Quick Books, Miracle, Net Suite, Sage, or similar.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, complex formulas, data modeling).
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills – comfortable presenting financial results to non-finance leaders.
- Prior exposure to service industries, job costing, or percentage-of-completion accounting is a plus.
- Direct mentorship from an experienced Controller who develops talent.
