About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Specialist to join us. In this role, you will provide comprehensive Canadian tax compliance and advisory services to a varied portfolio of clients. You will work closely with senior managers and partners to develop technical skills and deliver high-quality tax solutions. Ideal candidates have completed or are currently enrolled in the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax program, and are eager to develop into well-rounded tax advisors.
Responsibilities- Assist with tax planning and advisory projects including corporate reorganizations, estate planning, and owner-manager tax strategies
- Research complex Canadian tax issues and prepare technical memos and client correspondence
- Review Canadian corporate, partnership, trust, and personal income tax returns (T2, T1, T3, T5013) for a diverse client portfolio
- Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate findings to managers and partners
- Support HST/GST compliance engagements, including preparing returns and assisting with CRA correspondence
- Participate in the review and analysis of purchase and sale transactions from a tax perspective
- Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on client inquiries, audits, and objections under supervision
- Contribute to firm-wide knowledge sharing through internal training sessions and team meetings
- Meet chargeable hour targets while maintaining quality and professional standards
- CPA designation (or candidates in the final stages of completion) required
- Enrollment in or commitment to complete the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course (Parts I, II, and III) – firm-sponsored study time and course fees provided
- Completion of Part I of the In-Depth Tax Course is considered a strong asset
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, Commerce, or a related field
- 2–4 years of Canadian public accounting experience with a focus on tax compliance and planning
- Demonstrated experience preparing T1, T2, and T3 returns in a public accounting setting
- Experience with tax provision preparation (ASC 740 / IAS 12) is an asset
- Prior exposure to SR&ED claims, transfer pricing, or cross-border tax matters is a plus
- Proficiency with Canadian tax preparation software (Taxprep)
- Solid understanding of the Income Tax Act (Canada) and related CRA publications
- Working knowledge of GST/HST legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience with accounting software (Case Ware, Quick Books, Sage) preferred
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tax concepts to non-specialist clients
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
