Manager, Accounting and Administration (BH-285038)

Location Winnipeg, Canada Sector Accountancy Salary Commensurate with experience

Our client is seeking a hands‑on and highly organized Manager of Accounting and Administration to oversee the day‑to‑day financial operations of the business while providing leadership across payroll, human resources administration, office operations, and technology coordination.

This is a key leadership role within a growing construction‑focused organization, responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and strong administrative support across the business. The successful candidate will be a trusted partner to ownership and project leadership, helping drive accountability, process improvement, and informed decision‑making.

Responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting

  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Review supplier and subcontractor invoices and resolve discrepancies as required.
  • Coordinate and issue payments in accordance with contractual terms and company policies.
  • Monitor incoming client payments and maintain accurate records and reconciliations.
  • Complete weekly bank reconciliations and support cash flow monitoring and forecasting.
  • Maintain project accounting records, including job setup, cost tracking, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory declarations, insurance requirements, bonding documentation, and WCB/WSIB clearances.
  • Support budgeting, financial analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Payroll & Human Resources Administration

  • Oversee payroll processing, salary allocations, overtime calculations, and employee allowances.
  • Ensure payroll is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities, employee orientations, and required safety training.
  • Maintain employee files, benefits administration, wage adjustments, and payroll records.
  • Manage WCB claims, disability claims, and return‑to‑work programs.
  • Support employee relations matters and assist with workplace issue resolution.
  • Track employee vacation and leave balances.

Month‑End & Financial Reporting

  • Lead month‑end close activities and ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
  • Prepare and review monthly progress billings and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor project invoicing, cash allowances, and cost‑to‑complete reporting.
  • Complete account reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, fixed asset reporting, and other month‑end activities.
  • Prepare and file GST returns and WCB/WSIB remittances.
  • Produce accurate financial reports to support management decision‑making.

Administration, IT & Office Operations

  • Oversee office administration and ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations.
  • Coordinate IT support, system maintenance, software access, and technology‑related vendors.
  • Manage company equipment including computers, mobile devices, and communication tools.
  • Coordinate office supply procurement and facility maintenance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve administrative processes, systems, and efficiencies across the organization.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation preferred, or equivalent combination of education and progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting or finance leadership experience, ideally within construction, contracting, or project‑based environments.
  • Strong understanding of full‑cycle accounting, payroll, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
  • Experience with project accounting, progress billings, and construction‑related documentation is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation, GST reporting, and WCB/WSIB requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
