ASSISTANT CONTROLLER - Full-Time (40 hrs/week)

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Assistant Controller supports the Vice President of Finance by managing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. This role plays a critical hands-on function within the Finance team, translating enterprise financial strategy into disciplined execution across accounting processes.

LOCATION

This position operates on a hybrid work model within an office environment. The incumbent may be required to report to our Headquarters, located at The Forks in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as directed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established controls and accounting guidance
  • Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
  • Manage Retail Sales tax submissions and compliance
  • Manage the duty drawback process to submit for duty recoveries
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting
  • Prepare and review other regular and ad hoc reporting, including weekly Flash and Cashflow forecast
  • Support the Vice President of Finance in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and documentation to strengthen consistency and control
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and coordination with auditors
  • Monitor internal controls and support risk mitigation efforts related to financial reporting and accounting operations
  • Support ERP and financial system integrity, including user controls, data accuracy, and process adherence
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, ensuring workload balance, skill development, and performance accountability

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Professional

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of direct, progressive experience working in a finance accounting role is required
  • Experience leading or supervising accounting employees is preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems and Quick Books software is preferred

Educational Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business is required
  • CPA designation or equivalent (completed or in progress) is required
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
