Library Service Assistant 3 – Support Services Technician
Department: Community Services
Location: Millennium Library, 251 Donald Street, on-site
Position Type: Full-time, Temporary (until July 10, 2027)
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
Salary: $1,874.57 – $2,234.62 biweekly (Library Service Assistant 3 Classification)

- Order, receive, and invoice new library materials
- Monitor new vendor‑supplied Machine Readable Cataloguing (MARC) records or add new MARC records when vendors cannot supply
- Ensure correct receipt of adult, children’s, and young adult books and audio‑visual material
- Maintain the integrated library system database by importing vendor‑supplied bibliographic records
- Perform original cataloguing of designated materials or specialty collections
- Contribute to the maintenance of the database
- Library Technician’s Diploma from an accredited community college or technical college program in Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to use web‑based tools and resources.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Working knowledge of standard cataloguing, classification, and authority rules and standards, such as RDA, DDC, MARC, LCSH.
- Typing speed of 40 words per minute.
- Attention to detail and ability to work accurately.
- Ability to work with minimum direct supervision.

- Ability to accept and adapt to change.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to meet deadlines when required.
- Effective communication skills with staff members and library suppliers, verbally and in writing.
- Applicants whose education was completed outside Canada must have credentials comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. A recognized Canadian assessment service must provide an official academic assessment report (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. If the applicant possesses a work permit, it is the individual's responsibility to maintain its validity.
- Must obtain a satisfactory Police Information Check at the applicant’s expense.
- Must be physically capable of lifting boxes and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and setting up tables, chairs, banners, etc.
