OverviewThis position works in the Roads and Drainage organizational unit. It involves manual work of some variety, requiring physical effort and agility in performing semi‑skilled and unskilled construction and maintenance tasks. The role is distinguished from Labourer1 by the more complex and semi‑skilled duties performed.

Monday to Friday from 7:00AM – 3:30PM - Salary: $35.62/hour

Incumbents perform a variety of semi‑skilled tasks in the maintenance and construction of roads, pavements, and street cleaning. Duties include acting as a lead hand on road projects such as installing culverts, regrading, raking premix on extensive repair jobs, repairing sidewalks and boulevards; operating motorized compacting machines in back filling and grading; independently performing more complex work; assisting in pipe‑laying and timbering work;
breaking blacktop and concrete surfaces using pneumatic hammers and compressor accessories; assisting others in setting forms; mixing and tamping concrete; and assisting in concrete finishing for manholes.
Perform maintenance and construction work on wire and wooden fences and related tasks as required.
QualificationsEducation:
Up to high school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience:
General construction and maintenance work; knowledge of methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in public works and parks systems.
Skills:
Ability to perform a variety of semi‑skilled manual tasks that require independent judgment; physical strength, stamina, and coordination; use of a variety of construction tools.
A valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia is required.
