Position Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace health and safety programs across all roofing operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable occupational health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices while promoting a strong safety culture among field crews, supervisors, and subcontractors.

The Safety Officer will conduct site inspections, deliver safety training, investigate incidents, monitor regulatory compliance, and work proactively to reduce workplace injuries and property damage.

Key Responsibilities Summary
  • Safety Program Management: Maintain and improve company health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to support compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify hazards, address unsafe conditions, and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Fall Protection & Roofing Safety: Oversee fall protection systems, PPE use, and roofing‑specific safe work practices to ensure compliance on all job sites.
  • Training & Orientation: Deliver safety orientations, ongoing training, toolbox talks, and maintain employee training records and certifications.
  • Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain safety records and reporting, support inspections and audits, and ensure compliance with OH&S legislation, WCB, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Project Safety Requirements: Prepare project‑specific safety plans, procedures, and documentation, and work with project teams and contractors to meet site requirements.
  • Third‑Party Compliance: Maintain company standing with third‑party compliance platforms by keeping required safety documentation and company information current.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct job hazard analyses and site‑specific risk assessments, and recommend controls to reduce workplace risk.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Maintain emergency response procedures, rescue planning, drills, and site readiness.
  • Safety Culture & Leadership: Promote a proactive safety culture by coaching employees, supporting supervisors, and encouraging participation in safety initiatives.
Qualifications Education
  • Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • 3–5 years of health and safety experience in construction, roofing, or related trades.
  • Experience working in commercial roofing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and safety audits.
Certifications (Preferred)
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent.
  • Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or equivalent.
