Role DescriptionThe Senior Cost Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Winnipeg, MB, responsible for developing detailed cost estimates for infrastructure and construction projects. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing project plans and specifications, preparing quantity take-offs, and building comprehensive cost models that account for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services. The role involves collaborating closely with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to validate assumptions, refine budgets, and support bid preparation and negotiations.
The Senior Cost Estimator will monitor cost trends, maintain cost databases, identify potential savings, and provide ongoing cost advice during project execution. This role also supports risk assessments, prepares cost reports, and contributes to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.
- Strong cost management and cost control skills, with experience managing and tracking project costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proficiency in project estimation and budgeting, including developing detailed estimates and comprehensive project budgets.
- Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and market data to support accurate cost decisions.
- Experience with construction or infrastructure projects, including familiarity with materials, methods, and industry pricing.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Excel or other spreadsheet tools for building and maintaining cost models.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present cost findings and participate in cross-functional project discussions.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Several years of experience in cost estimating, preferably in a senior or lead role within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and market conditions in Western Canada.
