Position: Excavator Operator - Civil Construction (Underground Utilities)

Key Responsibilities
Operate excavators (up to 45T) for trenching, backfilling, and general excavationInstall and expose underground utilities safely (water, sewer, storm)Work around live utilities with proper clearances and spotting proceduresFollow grade stakes, plans, and direction from supervision/grade personnelLoad trucks, handle materials, and assist with site prep as requiredConduct daily pre-use inspections and basic machine maintenanceMaintain situational awareness and safe working distances from other equipmentCommunicate clearly with ground crew, spotters, and supervisorsRequirements and Experience
Minimum 3+ years excavator experience in civil or underground workExperience digging around utilities (hydro, gas, water/sewer)Experience with machines up to 45TAbility to read grade stakes and construction drawingsStrong knowledge of safe excavation practices and hazard awarenessValid driver’s license and reliable transportationSafety tickets (CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid, Ground Disturbance) considered an asset.Strong awareness of site safety and hazard recognition.Follow directions that are spoken or given by hand signals.Proven ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced setting.Ability to lift and work with materials weighing up to 25kg.Able to sit for long period of time in cramped spaces.Ability to work in all weather conditions and environments.Must have a strong understanding of industrial safety procedures and policies.Must be fluent in English, both written and verbal.Candidates may be required to complete a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screen and/or criminal record check.
