POSITION SUMMARY:

The Substation Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful delivery of high-voltage substation construction and utility infrastructure projects from project award through final completion. Reporting to the Director, Power Construction, this role oversees project planning, financial performance, resource management, commercial administration, customer relationships, and project execution while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with Construction Managers, Site Superintendents, Foremen, Project Coordinators, engineering teams, subcontractors, utility customers, and internal departments, the Substation Project Manager provides leadership throughout the project lifecycle, balancing technical execution with commercial performance to deliver exceptional results for our clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead all phases of high-voltage substation and electrical infrastructure projects from award through project closeout

Develop project execution strategies, schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans

Manage overall project financial performance, including job costing, forecasting, cash flow, change orders, and profitability

Review contracts, specifications, drawings, and customer requirements to ensure successful project execution

Coordinate labour, equipment, subcontractors, procurement, engineering support, and material deliveries

Monitor project schedules, milestones, productivity, risks, and project performance while implementing corrective actions as required

Coordinate utility interfaces, planned outages, commissioning activities, and energization schedules

Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, consultants, utilities, subcontractors, and project stakeholders

Lead project meetings, progress reviews, customer updates, and internal planning meetings

Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), change notices, change orders, contractual correspondence, and project documentation

Review and approve purchase requisitions, subcontract agreements, project expenditures, and procurement activities

Ensure accurate project reporting within ERP and project management systems

Monitor subcontractor performance, quality, productivity, and contractual compliance

Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management Systems

Support project quality planning, inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover documentation

Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to Project Coordinators, Construction Managers, Site Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel

Foster collaboration between office and field teams while driving accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement

Prepare executive project updates, financial reports, forecasts, and customer reporting

Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to protect project performance and customer commitments

Travel to project sites throughout Ontario as required

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

Minimum 5 years of project management experience within high-voltage electrical construction, substations, utilities, industrial, or EPC environments

Proven experience managing complex electrical infrastructure or utility construction projects from award through completion

Strong understanding of construction contracts, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, project controls, and commercial management

Experience managing subcontractors, procurement, customer relationships, change management, and commercial risk
