About the position

Duties
The Manitoba Field Unit operates Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site in St. Andrews, Manitoba and the Forks National Historic site in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Student Heritage Presenters are integral in welcoming visitors and promoting Parks Canada’s mandate by delivering historic tours and demonstrating heritage crafts all while wearing either a historic costume or uniform.

This unique style of presentation, called heritage interpretation, aims to connect our visitors to Manitoba's captivating stories.

Our team is continually broadening their knowledge on the signing of Treaty 1, the fur trade, Indigenous cultural heritage and the mid-nineteenth century among many other subjects with the hopes of inspiring visitors to care for our special places. Student Heritage Presenters will learn animation activities such as cooking, blacksmithing, gardening, woodworking and knitting to engage the public and help them make lasting memories.

During May and June, our team is largely focused on delivering educational tours and workshops for school groups. In July and August, Student Heritage Presenters cater to a broad demographic of visitors and are expected to deliver guided tours, historic workshops, heritage demonstrations, theatrical productions and much more!

Our staff are truly outstanding and remarkable because they are willing to learn and try new things. At our heritage places, student Heritage Presenters are passionate about their work and share their passion with colleagues, Canadians and visitors from around the world.

We look forward to meeting the next group of bright students that will become our fantastic team!
