Research Grant Facilitator

Job Summary

The Research Facilitator supports faculty and research teams in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences (RFHS) in the development, preparation and submission of competitive research funding applications. The role provides strategic, editorial, and project management support across the grant lifecycle, helping to strengthen proposals and increase funding success rates. The Facilitator works collaboratively with researchers, institutional units and external partners to advance research excellence and funding outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Funding opportunity identification: identify and disseminate relevant funding opportunities from governmental, non‑profit and industry sources; match funding opportunities to faculty expertise, research priorities and Faculty strengths.
  • Proposal Development Support: provide guidance on proposal structure, content and alignment with funder priorities; advise on evaluation criteria and competitive strategies; assist in developing collaborative and interdisciplinary proposals.
  • Editing and Quality Review: review and edit grant applications for clarity, coherence and persuasiveness; ensure compliance with funder guidelines, formatting requirements and submission criteria; provide substantive feedback to strengthen narrative quality and alignment with review expectations.
  • Project Coordination: develop and manage proposal timelines to ensure timely submission; coordinate input from investigators, collaborators and institutional stakeholders.
  • Budget and Administrative Support: collaborate with finance and research administration teams to develop accurate and compliant budgets; assist in preparing budget justifications and supporting documentation; ensure alignment with institutional policies and sponsor requirements.
  • Strategic Research Development: support long‑term funding strategies for faculty and research units; identify opportunities for large‑scale, interdisciplinary, or multi‑institutional funding; contribute to institutional research development initiatives.
  • Training and Capacity Building: deliver workshops, tools, and one‑on‑one coaching on grant writing and funding processes; support early‑career researchers in building grant development skills and funding track records; develop resources to enhance research funding success across RFHS.
Education
  • PhD in a relevant discipline
Experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in research, grant writing or research development, and knowledge translation in an academic environment.
  • Demonstrated success supporting or preparing competitive grant applications.
  • Experience with major funding agencies, knowledge of the programs offered by NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, CFI, NFRF, CRC.
  • Experience interpreting university policies, procedures and regulations to provide informed applicant advice and assistance.
  • Familiarity with interdisciplinary and large‑scale grant programs.
  • Experience working on topics from a range of scientific disciplines is essential.
