Elevate learning experiences as a Special Education Assistant focused on severely mentally handicapped students. This role involves direct support, mobility training, and behavioral guidance for students aged 3 to 22.
As a Special Education Assistant, you will provide one-on-one support to enhance the educational experience for students with specialized needs. Your key responsibilities include assisting with personal mobility, implementing educational plans, and monitoring student activities. You'll also participate in tutoring, social skills development, and maintaining daily performance records to ensure optimal learning.
Key Responsibilities- Assist students during transitions to and from classes
- Teach independent mobility and self-care skills
- Monitor student engagement in academic activities
- Support lunch, play, and study periods
- Maintain detailed performance records for each student
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- One year experience with handicapped students preferred
- Completion of relevant college-level courses
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
