The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Substitute teachers help maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while following lesson plans and school procedures.
Essential Responsibilities- Follow lesson plans, instructional materials, and schedules provided by the regular classroom teacher.
- Provide meaningful instruction and classroom support to students.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, assemblies, recess, and other assigned areas.
- Report student injuries, illness, or serious discipline concerns to school administration.
- Remain actively engaged with students by monitoring, assisting, and instructing throughout the school day.
- Comply with all Granite School District and school building procedures, policies, and schedules.
- Report to the school office at the assigned time listed in the AESOP system and remain for the full scheduled workday, including ten minutes after student dismissal.
- Check in with the school office upon arrival and follow all directions provided by school administration.
- Refrain from personal use of cell phones or electronic devices during instructional time.
- Use district technology and equipment only for instructional and school‑related purposes.
- Substitute teachers may not accept assignments in classrooms where a relative is the regular teacher.
- Applicants must successfully complete and clear a background check prior to employment.
- Minimum education requirement:
Associate degree or completion of at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited institution. - Ability to travel to various schools and locations throughout Granite School District as assigned through the Frontline/AESOP system.
- Substitute teachers must work a minimum of three days per month to remain active in the substitute system.
Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move throughout the classroom and school environment.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively, including speaking and hearing.
May require lifting, carrying, or moving classroom materials and supplies up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Requires visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
