Candidates who only have a Bachelor of Education will be considered at the VH1 classification. The salary range is $72,134.00 - $88,967.00 per year.
Candidates who have a Bachelor of Education and formal Deaf and Hard of Hearing education training will be considered at the VH2 classification. The salary range is $82,083.00 - $ per year.
Candidates who have a Masters of Education and formal Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education training will be considered at the VH3 classification. The salary range is $85,166.00 - $ per year.
OverviewThe Inclusion Support Branch of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Learning is seeking a qualified individual to fill the regular full-time position of Consultant for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Consultant for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides school teams with consultative services for accessing the curriculum and social environment of school, student‑specific planning, and professional development to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
DutiesThe Consultant for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing actively participates as a member of a school team to provide appropriate curriculum‑based assessment and development for Deaf and hard of hearing students.
The consultant must effectively collaborate with teachers, school administrators, teaching assistants, and parents when planning appropriate programs for students with a variety of needs.
The consultant acts as a direct support to the student, staff, and school community by providing information about hearing loss; specialized teaching techniques, which may include the use of American Sign Language (ASL) oral instruction and/or an auditory‑verbal approach; specialized amplification devices and equipment; specialized resources; and materials developed for children with hearing loss and information pertaining to appropriate agencies and/or other departments of government.
QualificationsEssential:
- Bachelor of Education and formal training in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education; suitable combinations of education, training and experience will be considered
- Experience teaching and working with students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Experience providing support for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing using:
American Sign Language (ASL), and/or an oral approach, and/or auditory verbal therapy. - Knowledge of Bilingual‑Bicultural environments
- Experience adapting curriculum to achieve curriculum outcomes
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate with all educational partners and multi‑disciplinary teams
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong written communication skills
Desired:
- Experience delivering professional learning for peers
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Inclusive Education Teaching Certificate
- Certification by the Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
