Student Recruitment markets the University of Winnipeg’s programs and services by managing and implementing recruitment strategies, both domestically and internationally. Student Recruitment reaches out to prospective applicants to encourage them to apply, drives application numbers while assisting students through the application process, and implements strategies to convert applicants to registered students.

The Student Recruitment Officer is a full-time term role that engages prospective students, parents, guidance counsellors, and teachers in conversations regarding The University of Winnipeg, its programs, facilities and opportunities for students through on-campus and off-campus activities, presentations and events.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts presentations, representing The University of Winnipeg to groups of prospective students, guidance counsellors, parents and teachers, both in Winnipeg and rural Manitoba.
  • Represents The University at domestic events such as student fairs, career fairs, parent nights, and other recruitment outreach opportunities such as High School presentations.
  • Conducts campus tours for prospective students, guidance counsellors, parents and others.
  • Ensures all individual recruitment efforts, activities and communications are consistent with established structures, policies, customer service and quality assurance principles.
  • Informs prospective students about the undergraduate application and admissions experience by email, phone and in-person.
  • Provides information to students regarding the full range and types of undergraduate programs offered by The University of Winnipeg.
  • Answers basic questions about the course selection and registration process.
  • Receives, screens, responds to and refers inquiries to other Student Services areas.
  • Is familiar with the range of UWinnipeg Student Services and student supports available.
  • Manages personal schedule of recruitment activities, presentations and follow-up, as well as prospective student appointments.
  • Prepares all media and materials required to fulfill presentations, online fairs, etc.
  • Books hotels and plans rental car usage for recruitment activities.
  • Completes and maintains high school visit and other student recruitment activity summaries and reports.
  • Completes all travel expense reports and manages receipts and expenditures.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned such as recruitment material, supply room, and vehicle maintenance, delivery of recruitment material to schools.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in any discipline, University of Winnipeg graduates preferred.
  • Prior experience in sales, marketing, education, or public relations is an asset.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the nature, purpose and value of a university education and be able to communicate that to various audiences including prospective students of all ages, parents, guidance counsellors, teachers and other educators
  • Detailed knowledge of The University of Winnipeg’s academic and extra-curricular programs and functions of The University at all levels is essential.
  • Must have strong oral presentation skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Must be skilled in using multimedia applications to support school visits and career fairs and proficient in the use and operation of desktop and laptop computers and peripherals, digital projectors, online file sharing and email programs.
