English as a Second Language Teacher (Ancillary)
Please note that this is a temporary position, and candidates must reside in Whitehorse to be considered.
The Multicultural Centre of the Yukon has openings for English as a Second Language Substitute Teachers in the ESL Institute. Morning Classes
- Monday
- Friday (8:30 am - 10:30 am - 1:00 pm) - Levels 1-2 and 3-4.
Instruct ESL to adult immigrant students in an integrated skills classroom setting, and work collaboratively with other ESL instructors to achieve curriculum objectives for learners.
QUALIFICATIONS- A Bachelor's degree in a closely related discipline, plus certification in a TESL Canada-recognized TEFL/TESL program (see for list of certified programs) is considered an asset.
- Experience in teaching ESL to immigrant adults is preferred.
- Candidates should have the flexibility needed for teaching a multi-level group, and should demonstrate a good understanding of learning styles as they impact language learning.
- Other qualifications include cross-cultural communication skills; digital literacy and awareness of challenges faced by immigrants in small communities.
- A respectful learner-centred focus is essential as is a commitment to contribute to the goals of the Centre.
