Indigenous Learning and Engagement Producer

In keeping with the goals of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP),

Reporting to the Manager of School and Public Programs, the Indigenous Learning and Engagement Producer designs, delivers, and evaluates learning and engagement activities. The incumbent’s responsibilities are split between learning program delivery and the development of new and innovative learning programs inspired by the collections, stories, and exhibitions in the Museum Galleries. This role is supported by the Head of Indigenous Programming and Engagement, the curatorial team, and colleagues from across the Museum.

T hey will have experience working in collaborative teams, experience developing and delivering educational programming for various audiences, and knowledge of Indigenous histories and cultures.

This positionisfull-time (35 hours) and will require some evening and weekend work. Work hours may change depending on seasonal departmental activities and special events/programs.

Priority 1:
Indigenous Learning Program Production, Renewal, and Coordination (50%)

The Indigenous Learning and Engagement Producer will develop, deliver, and train others to deliver Museum learning activities for diverse audiences. They will work within the greater Learning & Engagement Team to identify areas of need and will be expected to respond to evolving priorities with energy, agility, and creativity. Programs supported through this role explore topics including, but not limited to, the HBC Royal Charter, the fur trade, Indigenous trade and diplomatic networks, treaty-making, land stewardship, and colonial systems and their impacts.

Programming balances critical engagement with colonial histories alongside recognition of Indigenous ingenuity, innovation, resilience, and enduring contributions to society.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, deliver, and evaluate formal and informal learning programs for school and public audiences, in consultation with the Manager of School and Public Programs and supported by the Head of Indigenous Programming and Engagement and the curatorial and Learning & Engagement teams.
• Together with the Head of Indigenous Programming and Engagement, collaborate and research with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, educators, and community partners to ensure program content remains accurate, relevant, and responsive.
• Promote the institution’s programs and assist with or lead outreach, marketing, and audience development, in collaboration with relevant Museum staff.
• Gather and share feedback from visitors, volunteers, staff, and community partners to support continuous improvement and inform institutional decision-making.

Priority 2:
Learning Program Delivery, Maintenance, and Support (50%)

The Indigenous Learning and Engagement Producer plays a key role in the day-to-day delivery and maintenance of learning programs, ensuring high-quality, consistent, and meaningful visitor experiences. Through direct engagement with diverse audiences, the incumbent supports learning that encourages reflection, dialogue, and understanding while centering Indigenous strength, continuity, and lived experience.

• Take a leadership role in daily program operations and logistics.
• Deliver booked interpretive programs for school and public audiences, both in-person and online.
