Position: 2 Year Secondment: Elementary Student Success Teacher (Grades 7 and 8) (Student Success)
The Simcoe County District School Board is accepting applications from SCDSBElementary Contract Teachers for the following position:
Elementary Student Success Teacher (Grades 7 and
8)   Supporting Schools in Region 2-OSS/TLSS FOS
2 Year Secondment  and

* Job Description:

Elementary Student Success Teacher (eSST) will, in conjunction with the school support team, facilitate opportunities for student engagement, support students in the areas of literacy and mathematics, career, life and pathways planning, and transition of “at‑risk” students in elementary schools within a family of schools. Teachers will be responsible for:
staff development  in support of student success initiatives, as evidenced by student needs, and coordinatedby the Principals of Student Achievement;
student transitions  and working closely with secondary student success teams to create opportunities for Grade 8 students to gently transition to secondary school;
direct student advocacy and mentoring  of “at‑risk” students;
experiential learning  (developing) high yield and genuine engagement strategies
student monitoring  (tracking of data related to “at‑risk” students); and,
student interventions  (development and implementation of) including supporting a group of students specifically focusing on mathematics and literacy.
Facilitators will also work with junior and intermediate teachers in Region 2 to support students who are at-risk with their courses, literacy and mathematics and to support the transition to secondary school.
The focus of the role will be on capacity building to support classroom teachers and students to achieve excellence, ensure equity and promote well-being.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification
A University Degree
Qualifications to teach in junior/intermediate divisions
Experience teaching Grades 7 and 8
Five or more years teaching experience with a range of teaching assignments
Additional qualifications in either Reading or Writing and mathematics an asset
Special Education qualifications preferred
KEY COMPETENCIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT  Successful applicants for eSST Facilitators (Grades 7 and
8) will have:
a vast knowledge of school and community-based supports for student mental health and well-being;
a solid understanding of pathway planning and can support students transitioning from Grade 8 to Grade 9;
a repertoire of effective evidence‑informed instructional strategies to engage and improve student learning;
mathematics and literacy knowledge for teaching and leading (content & pedagogy);
in‑depth knowledge of assessment, evaluation and reporting;
experience in the design and facilitation of effective professional learning ;
experience supporting cross‑curricular strategies;
experience with working in collaboration with colleagues;
work collaboratively with other central and school‑based staff to support integrative thinking, planning and monitoring of the impact of both individual and collective work on student achievement; and
other responsibilities to be determined based on the emerging learning needs of the system.
excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; and
a thorough knowledge of the following documents:
