What you will do
We are seeking a motivated, hardworking, and field-oriented Health & Safety Field Coordinator to support secure operations across our environmental, industrial, transportation, and construction worksites. This position is primarily field-based and requires a strong presence at active job sites, operational facilities, and project locations. The successful candidate will work closely with field crews, supervisors, managers, subcontractors, and leadership teams to support Miller’s proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement, inspections, compliance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Conduct regular worksite inspections, field audits, process verifications, and safe work observations across active projects and facilities.
- Support and promote Miller’s COR and ISO 45001 certified Health & Safety Management System.
- Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with company safe work procedures, Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health legislation, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with hazard identification, risk assessments, Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), Last Minute Risk Assessments (LMRAs), and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Participate in incident investigations, near miss reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, orientations, and ongoing worker engagement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and field crews to proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
- Support Miller’s Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) initiatives through field coaching, positive reinforcement, and employee interaction.
- Assist with maintaining safety documentation, inspections, training records, KPI tracking, corrective actions, and audit requirements.
- Support emergency preparedness planning, spill response readiness, and site‑specific safety requirements.
- Participate in COR audit preparation, internal audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote employee participation and safety ownership throughout all levels of the organization.
- Travel regularly to work sites and operational locations as required.
- Assist with office‑based Health & Safety administration including reporting, policy updates, and safety manual maintenance as needed.
- Post‑secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred.
- NCSO designation or equivalent certification considered an asset.
- Minimum 2–5 years of Health & Safety experience in construction, industrial, environmental, transportation, or heavy industry environments preferred.
- Robust understanding of COR certification requirements and occupational Health & Safety management systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 principles and continuous improvement processes considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health legislation and industry best practices.
- Experience conducting inspections, audits, investigations, and field‑level safety coaching.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and credibility with field personnel.
- Comfortable working in industrial, construction, and outdoor environments in varying weather and operational conditions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to a team‑oriented culture.
- Valid Class5 driver’s licence with the ability to travel to multiple job sites and facilities.
- Leads by example and promotes accountability through positive field engagement.
- Is comfortable working alongside crews in active industrial and construction environments.
- Understands the importance of proactive hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Supports continuous improvement and actively contributes to strengthening safety culture.
