About YOU

We are seeking an organized and collaborative individual to join us in the role of Specifications Writer. The successful candidate will work as part of a focused team to be responsible for specifications writing on all Number TEN projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review drawings and other project information to write and edit specifications for projects and coordinate compliance with project requirements;
  • Understand the project design requirements and translate those requirements into materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation, and certification testing necessary to provide the narrative descriptions which are used to procure, install and erect building components;
  • Prepare and review procurement and contracting requirements;
  • Perform product research; assist project designers with material selection and system research;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors;
  • Provide continual development and improvement of Number Ten Master Specifications including specialized content for project type or regional conditions as well as sustainable content;
  • Assist project architects with shop drawing and product substitution review;
  • Understand and ability to prepare various CCDC contracts;
  • Provide in-office mentoring / knowledge transfer on technical issues for both project and specification related issues;
  • Manage a variety of projects with tight deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • Relevant diploma or degree from a recognized college or university (for example, Diploma in Architectural/Engineering Technology (32-month) from Red River College; Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba);
  • Minimum five (5) years of dedicated specification writing is an asset;
  • Active member of Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the construction industry, industry standards and building codes;
  • Able to work in a fast-changing environment with many deadlines;
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), collaboration and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel) and Bluebeam;
  • General proficiency with Revit is an asset;
  • Proficiency with Spec Link is an asset;
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
