Cypher Environmental is seeking a highly motivated, technically strong, and adaptable professional to join our Winnipeg-based team in a senior technical leadership role. This position blends engineering expertise, applied fieldwork, research and development, and cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting global projects, advancing product performance, and representing Cypher both in the field and with external partners.
As with all roles at Cypher Environmental, employment is subject to business conditions, and from time to time employees may be required to participate in work-sharing arrangements or temporary layoffs in accordance with applicable legislation.
This role requires regular international travel, including travel to active mining and construction sites outside of Canada.
Position OverviewThe Manager, Technical & Field Applications will lead Cypher’s technical services function, supporting product development, soil and material analysis, customer applications, and field implementation. This role works closely with sales, operations, R&D, and external research partners and provides technical leadership across the organization.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in both laboratory and field environments, thrives in fast‑paced settings, and has experience relevant to mining, construction, or civil/geotechnical applications.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively across departments
- Confident representing Cypher with customers, partners, and at industry events
- Willingness and ability to take ownership of complex, multi‑stage projects
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally on a regular basis
- Must hold a valid passport
- Must be able to meet site‑specific health, safety, and travel requirements
- Must be comfortable working at active mining and construction sites
- Technical designation such as P.Eng, CET, P.Geo, or equivalent relevant experience
- A background in mining, construction, geotechnical, civil engineering, or related industries is preferred. However not mandatory.
- Experience conducting and assessing results derived from soil testing and classification, including:
- Sieve analysis
- Hydrometer
- Proctor
- C
- Experience in a fast‑paced production, product development, or R&D environment
- Strong understanding of road construction and civil engineering practices is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and a desire to continuously learn
- Conduct, document, and report on soil and material testing for client projects
- Perform and interpret geotechnical tests (Sieve, Hydrometer, Atterberg, Proctor, C )
- Analyze domestic and international laboratory results and provide technical recommendations
- Assess soil treatability and provide technical feedback to clients and Cypher sales teams
- Provide technical training and support to customer‑facing employees
- Troubleshoot technical issues for both clients and internal teams
- Coordinate and maintain relationships with post‑secondary institutions and research partners
- Lead and manage research projects from inception through completion
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to co‑op students and full‑time technical staff
- Assist with the investigation of new technologies and solutions aligned with Cypher’s mandate
- Attend and lead road builds and field applications locally and internationally
- Support with the representation of Cypher at trade shows, conferences, and industry events
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
