Your

Opportunity

Our Winnipeg Roadways & Highways team is seeking an experienced Roadway Design Engineer to grow into a technical and project leadership role within our transportation Business Center. This position is intended for a professional engineer with 5–10 years of progressive experience who is ready to Manage the full project lifecycle — from planning and preliminary design through detailed design, tendering, and construction support.

You’ll work on a diverse portfolio of provincial highway, urban/municipal roadway, and bridge-approach projects for clients such as Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI), the City of Winnipeg, and municipal clients across Manitoba. You’ll be mentored by senior staff while progressively taking ownership of design deliverables, client relationships, and project financials — a genuine pathway to becoming one of the Team’s future technical and PM leaders.

Your

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or support the design of provincial highways, municipal/urban roadways, rural roads, and bridge-approach works from planning through detailed design and construction support.

  • Develop horizontal and vertical geometry, cross-sections, corridor models, superelevation, earthworks/mass-balance quantities, and drainage coordination using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Open Roads Designer (ORD).

  • Apply and interpret geometric design standards including MTI Geometric Design Criteria (Blue Sheets), the TAC Geometric Design Guide, and AASHTO policies; prepare design exceptions where criteria cannot be met within constraints.

  • Prepare and review contract drawings, tender documents, technical specifications, design memos, opinions of probable cost, and engineering reports.

  • Provide project management of small to medium-sized transportation projects — planning, organizing, and controlling scope, budgets, schedules, and financial performance — and assist senior PMs on larger multi-disciplinary commissions.

  • Support proposals, RFP/RFS responses, work breakdown structures, fee estimates, and scope-change management.

  • Provide construction-phase support and contract administration, including field reviews, RFIs, change orders, and site inspection.

  • Liaise with clients, sub-consultants, utilities, and regulatory agencies; prepare correspondence and meeting minutes as required.

  • Provide quality management reviews and technical guidance/mentoring to junior engineers, EITs, and CAD staff.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Minimum 5–10 years of transportation design experience, preferably in a Canadian consulting environment.

  • P.Eng. registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or eligibility to register).

  • Strong working knowledge of applicable roadway and highway design standards (MTI, TAC, AASHTO).

  • Proficiency in both Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Open Roads Designer design environments would be considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience across a variety of project types — highways, urban/municipal roads, and bridges — at both a technical and project-management level.

  • Field, construction, and/or survey experience is a strong asset, bringing practical, constructible design judgment.

  • Outstanding communication, documentation, and proposal-writing…
