Reporting to the Director of Water Infrastructure, the Geotechnical Services Engineer is an engineering specialist responsible for oversight and delivery of geotechnical engineering services for capital projects and preservation programs within multiple branches within Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure. Services delivered include condition inspection; geotechnical drilling; geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring; emergency flood response; preliminary and detailed geotechnical design; tender preparation; preparation of design and construction drawings;

planning studies; project management; and contract administration and construction inspection.

• Undergraduate degree in Civil or Geological Engineering. Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM). Master’s Degree in Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering is preferred but not a requirement. Specialized technical training may be a consideration.
• Expertise and experience in geotechnical engineering design with a thorough working knowledge of other engineering disciplines (i.e. structural, water resources) as required in the delivery of highway and water infrastructure projects.
• Extensive experience with shallow and deep foundation design, slope stability analysis, settlement and seepage analysis, index and advanced laboratory testing and data interpretation, erosion protection, site reconnaissance and geotechnical investigations and monitoring, and asset management.
• Experience with providing construction engineering services and contract administration during rehabilitation and/or construction of highway and water infrastructure.
• Experience in project management including planning, design, environmental mitigation and approvals, and maintenance of large scale, complex and multi-disciplined water infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience including human resource practices (i.e., staff recruitment, training and development, coaching, labour relations, mentoring, performance management, conflict resolution and decision‑making based on the collective agreement).
• Excellent leadership, organizational, decision‑making, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
• Ability to undertake independent research and develop proposals to introduce new industry innovations into Department operations and practices.
• Highly developed verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM).
• Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground, water and/or air transportation
• May require overnight stays away from home
• Must be able to occasionally work in an outdoor environment in both winter and summer in extreme weather conditions, including near water or ice
