Mikkelsen-Coward is pleased to announce an internal opportunity for an Automation Estimator within our Controls Department.

This position is an excellent opportunity for employees interested in expanding their knowledge of building automation systems and pursuing a career in estimating, design, and project delivery. If you enjoy problem-solving, learning new technologies, and working collaboratively across departments.

Position Summary

The Automation Estimator will work alongside our experienced estimating and controls teams to develop accurate quotations and project estimates for building automation and controls projects. This role offers hands-on training and mentorship while building a strong foundation in estimating, HVAC controls, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in preparing accurate estimates and proposals for automation projects.
  • Complete equipment and material take-offs.
  • Coordinate pricing with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Prepare bills of materials and project documentation.
  • Support the estimating team with project costing and proposal development.
  • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Field Operations to ensure successful project execution.
  • Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost savings.
  • Maintain estimating records and pricing databases.
Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • An interest in building automation, HVAC systems, or controls.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work with numbers.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel experience is an asset).
  • A willingness to learn and participate in ongoing technical training.

Previous experience in estimating or building automation is not required.
