Job Description
AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our growing and collaborative team of geologists, hydro geologists, groundwater modellers, geochemists and water management professionals working on projects across Canada. We are looking for a candidate that is an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with strong technical capabilities and experience in physical and contaminant hydrogeology. In this role, you will work with our experienced team of geoscientists, environmental scientists and engineers on projects in the mining, water supply, civil infrastructure, remediation, and waste management sectors.
Work on hydrogeological characterization projects across Canada for mine development, operations and closure, water supply development, contaminated site assessment, remediation, civil infrastructure, and waste management.
Design and execute hydrogeological investigations including ground disturbance planning, drilling, logging and sampling of soil, rock core, groundwater, surface water and vapour.
Complete well design, installation, and aquifer testing.
Design and oversight of multidisciplinary field investigations for mine development, operations, closure and remediation.
Collection and interpretation of water quality data to evaluate compliance, potability and inform treatment requirements.
Participate in development of 3D Geological Models using various digital tools and geostatistical software packages including EVS and Leapfrog.
Participate in development of numerical groundwater models using MODFLOW, FEFLOW, HYDRUS, SEEP/W and integrated groundwater and surface water models using MOD-HMS, MIKE-SHE and HYDROGEOSPHERE.
Preparation of comprehensive technical reports describing field investigations, data analysis, interpretation and monitoring data to satisfy regulatory requirements and resolve complex environmental problems.
Development of junior and intermediate staff through ongoing mentoring.
Preparation of workplans, proposals and cost estimates in support of business development.
Project Management duties including managing project budgets, schedules, health + safety and project staffing.
Liaison with clients and regulators.
Travel as required to meet project needs.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
B.Sc. in Hydrogeology, Geology, or related engineering discipline with a focus in groundwater and hydrogeology and a minimum of 8 years of experience in environmental consulting or related experience.
Currently registered or immediately eligible to register as a Professional Geoscientist or Engineer with EGM, APEGS or APEGA.
8 years of experience working with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to investigate, analyze and manage soil, groundwater and surface water to meet regulatory requirements.
Experience in mining or mine closure/remediation.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong written and oral communication in English.
A valid driver’s license for passenger vehicles with no restrictions.
Willingness to travel to complete site visits, field investigations, travel, and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs.
Preferred qualifications:
M.Sc. in Hydrogeology or combination of related engineering discipline with related work experience.
Experience using industry standard software for determination of aquifer properties (e.g. AQTESOLV) and manipulation of geospatial data (e.g. ArcGIS, Surfer, etc.) and databases (e.g. EQuIS).
Exposure to and working knowledge of numerical modelling concepts and contaminant fate and migration, including working knowledge of BC Environmental Management Act and Contaminated Sites Regulation.
Working knowledge of relevant provincial, federal, and municipal acts and regulations in other provinces.
15 Years of in environmental consulting or related experience.
