The opportunity

Reporting to the VP, Investment Platform Support, the Portfolio Manager, Investment Practice Management will play an integral role in supporting and enabling investment management practices. The Portfolio Manager, Investment Practice Management will act as the primary point of contact for Advisors with respect to investment management programs, supporting the execution, adoption, and ongoing operation of investment programs. The Portfolio Manager supports Discretionary PMs as an expert in the use and application of portfolio management and trading systems and strategies.

They will also support operational support, technology enablement, and execution of investment practice management initiatives, ensuring alignment with firm strategy, platform capabilities, and regulatory requirements.

The role combines investment knowledge, platform expertise, and operational excellence to help Advisors optimize their investment practices and deliver strong client outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Investment Practice & Program Management
    • Support the development and execution of program and practice management policies and procedures.
    • Work directly with Advisor teams to adopt and implement portfolio management best practices across managed investment programs.
    • Provide best-practice support related to portfolio construction, model development, and trading processes.
    • Support the execution of managed investment programs.
    • Support advisor adoption of investment practice management resources, including proposal tools, model optimization, rebalancing, and performance analytics.
  • Investment Platform Support (Envestnet)
    • Act as firm Subject Matter Expert on the Envestnet trading platform including trading, portfolio management, reporting, and model capabilities.
    • Provide training guidance on modeling, portfolio construction, and trading processes to existing and new Advisors when on-boarding onto the Envestnet platform.
    • Assist with onboarding and ongoing support related to Envestnet or third-party investment platforms, model marketplace integrations, and UMA/SMA programs.
    • Work closely with discretionary portfolio managers as an expert in the use and application of portfolio management and trading systems and strategies.
    • Deliver trade system overviews and demos to existing, prospective and transitioning PM teams and Business Development partners.
    • Participate in and design training sessions and contribute to knowledge base articles and user documentation.
    • Assist in troubleshooting, issue resolution, and escalation of platform or program-related matters in coordination with internal teams and external vendors.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A degree or diploma in business administration, accounting, finance or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Completion of applicable securities industry courses offered by the Canadian Securities Institute including Canadian Securities Course, and the Conducts and Practices Handbook Course.
  • Successful completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program and/or Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation.
  • 10+ years’ financial services industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in portfolio management, risk management, and trading.
  • Policy and practice management experience in a private client/retail advice setting.
  • Thorough understanding of Securities Industry products, capital markets, financial instruments, and investment strategies.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with portfolio management and risk modelling systems.
  • Registered with CIRO as Registered Representative (RR) under the Portfolio Manager category or as an Advising Representative (AR) under the Portfolio Manager category or meets the requirements to register.
  • A commitment to fulfilling Continuing Education (CE) requirements
  • Proficiency with Envestnet is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with the MSOffice suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Experience or familiarity with advisor platforms, workflow systems, or financial services technology is an asset.
  • Experience with Investment Modelling and Trading Platforms are considered an asset. (Envestnet, Croesus, other).
