The Manitoba government recognizes the importance of building an exemplary public service reflective of the citizens it serves, where diverse abilities, backgrounds, cultures, identities, languages and perspectives drives a high standard of service and innovation. The Manitoba government supports equitable employment practices and promotes representation of designated groups (women, Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, visible minorities).
Employment Equity is a factor in selection for this competition. Consideration will be given to Indigenous people, visible minorities and persons with disabilities. An eligibility list may be created for similar positions and will remain in effect for 12 months.
Correctional Services contributes to the protection of society by administering sentences imposed by the courts and working with community agencies, government departments and other levels of government to support interventions to reduce recidivism. Probation Officers write court ordered reports, complete risk assessments, provide appropriate programs, services and encouragement to help individuals deal with the issues that bring them into conflict with the law.
Probation Officers prepare court reports, provide supervision and support for adults and youth under probation, conditional sentences, community service orders and a variety of youth orders. Probation Officers conduct interviews, oversee case management, and deliver programs as well as involvement with alternatives to court, restorative justice and assistance with reintegration from custody.
