The purpose of this position is to plan and implement provincial silvicultural and tree improvement programs as identified in Forestry and Peatlands Branch strategies. The incumbent plans, schedules, supervises, administers and reports on all aspects of the programs, including the Provincial – Industrial co-operatives. The incumbent works closely with external service providers to ensure that seedling crops are sown, grown and delivered to end user locations in a fiscally and time responsive manner.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Forest Management, a post-graduate degree in Forestry, Forest Management, or Tree Improvement, or a diploma in Forestry, Forest Management, equivalent related experience may be considered.
- Experience planning, performing, supervising and inspecting silvicultural activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
- Able to work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including ArcGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) with strong mapping skills.
- Experience preparing annual reports, operating plans, and forest management plans.
- Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Experience in human resource management including supervision, performance management and training.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Must be physically able and willing to travel to remote locations within the province for extended periods of time by air, water, off-road vehicles and on foot.
- Must be physically capable of performing all of the required position duties including: sitting and standing for prolonged periods; prolonged walking outdoors; prolonged exposure to the elements; working in a forest operations environment, which may require walking over uneven surfaces; loading and unloading field equipment such as off-road vehicles and boats.
- Must be able to obtain a basic Drone Pilot Licence within six (6) months of appointment.
