Position SummaryReporting to the Chief of Staff, the Policy Analyst provides technical support in policy research, analysis, and evaluation of existing policies and programs. The analyst will lay the groundwork for new programs and legislation to meet the goals and objectives of the Leadership, working within a multi‑disciplinary team that includes partners from various sectors, internal AMC departments, First Nations and Tribal Councils, and community stakeholders to develop recommendations that guide policies and practices supporting First Nations individuals, families, and communities.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on issues, gather data, analyze trends, review literature and reports, and identify relevant case studies or best practices.
- Use analytical tools and methodologies (e.g., SWOT analysis) to assess the effectiveness, impact, and implications of existing or proposed policies.
- Gather and interpret complex data sets and statistics to derive meaningful insights and conclusions, including statistical analysis and data visualization.
- Monitor developments in legislation, regulations, funding priorities, and political dynamics; update stakeholders on emerging trends and implications.
- Monitor implementation of recommendations from inquests, commissions, and reports to ensure progress toward desired outcomes.
- Develop policy proposals, drafting policy documents, briefing papers, reports, and presentations based on leadership goals.
- Engage with stakeholders, build relationships with agencies and other partners.
- Assist in logistical planning and implementation of meetings, workplans, activities, workshops, and training sessions related to the program.
- Facilitate program‑related and leadership meetings as required.
- Participate in local, regional, and national meetings and attend organizational meetings as requested.
- Collect, organize, and store department data securely, and input documentation through scanning for record‑keeping in shared drives.
- Support the Leadership and AMC activities as required.
- Complete all mandatory training assignments.
- Create agendas and transcribe minutes.
- Photocopy, organize, and prepare materials for meetings.
- Serve as liaison for AMC registration when required.
- Correspond with internal and external partners that attend meetings.
Education & Experience
- University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field such as Political Science (required).
- 3–5 years of experience in policy development, research, or related work (preferred).
- 2–3 years of experience in the political sector (preferred).
- Demonstrated knowledge of policy and research.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in conducting research, analyzing information, and policy work in First Nations communities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience writing proposals and reports, leading discussion groups, and synthesizing information into policy positions and documents.
- Experience developing intergovernmental partnerships, including ISC and First Nations governments, and related Federal and Provincial departments and initiatives related to First Nations.
- In‑depth knowledge and understanding of challenges facing First Nations.
