IntroductionManitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as an Inspector within the Recovery and Mitigation branch of the Manitoba Emergency Management Organization.

DutiesReporting to the Manager of Funding Programs the incumbent works independently in the field to inspect and document private sector damages for which applicants have requested Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) from the government of Manitoba. The incumbent will document with reports and photographs the damages caused by a disaster for the following claim types: residential, farm, small business and not‑for‑profits. Following inspection, the incumbent will input their findings in a database used by claims management staff to administer the DFA claim.
When not in the field, the incumbent will assist in the administration of claims.
- Professional work experience and demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: building construction, building inspection, agriculture inspection, and/or insurance adjusting. Preference may be given to candidates with experience evaluating and/or inspecting residential, farm, and/or small to medium‑sized commercial buildings. Related work experience demonstrating experience in property or damage assessment may be considered.
- Ability to assess and determine physical damage to property through inspection and evaluation.
- Experience interpreting and applying policy, regulations, guidelines, and/or legislation.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with experience navigating complex and sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact.
- Strong written communication skills with experience communicating simple and complex information to various stakeholders who have varying levels of understanding.
- Strong verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook), or equivalent software.
- Experience with Lotus Notes or IBM Notes.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be willing and able to work extended hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends as required.
- Must be able to travel by ground and air across Manitoba with possible overnight stays as required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid full Class 5F Manitoba Driver's licence.
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
