Introduction
The Community Planning Branch of the Department of Municipal and Northern Relations is looking for a skilled and professional individual to fill a Community Planner (LP2) position located in Winnipeg. Duties:
Under the direction of the Manager, the Community Planner assists senior staff in the provision of professional services in the areas of community and regional planning to support sound local decision-making by municipalities, planning districts, and landowners. The Community Planner also provides technical and professional planning services to municipalities, planning districts, provincial departments, Centre Port, and the public and undertakes planning projects, studies and by-laws under the guidance of senior staff.
Qualifications:Essential:
Post-secondary degree in Urban, Rural or Regional Planning. An equivalent combination of a directly related degree and planning experience may be considered.Experience in land use planning, including review of development plans, zoning by-laws and subdivisions.Strong problem solving skills including the ability to handle sensitive issues.Experience working on complex policy and planning initiatives.Excellent written communication skills to clearly and concisely prepare reports, briefing notes and memos at a professional level to present complex planning issues and recommendations.Effective verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to clearly articulate ideas to a wide range of audiences.Proficient computer skills with a good understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and its application to the field of planning.Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments and clients.Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines with limited lead time.Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in CanadaMust possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5F driver's license or equivalent and have continuous access to a personal vehicle.Must be able to travel throughout the Province as required to carry out the responsibilities of the position, includes early morning and evening meetings, as required.Must be eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
