** Position Summary
** Reporting to the Manager of Quality Care, the Registered Dietitian is responsible for the provision and promotion of optimal nutritional care to the people DASCH supports according to professional Standards of Practice. They will assess the nutritional needs of the people we support and provide staff with general and specialized nutritional training or education.
** Qualifications
* ** Two years’ community nutrition experience preferred
* Bachelor of Human Nutritional Sciences from an accredited Canadian university program (or the approved equivalent if internationally educated)
* Graduate of a recognized dietetic internship program which has been accredited by Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) or planned practicum as requested by the College of Dietitians of Manitoba.
* Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
* Safe Food Handling Certificate preferred
* Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba
* Membership with the Dietitians of Canada (DC) preferred
* Minimum of one year experience working with people with intellectual disabilities preferred
* Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition therapies required
* Valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle during work hours is required
** Duties and Responsibilities
*** Plan, organize, coordinate and evaluate the nutritional component of the people we support
* Develop and implement nutritional plans based on assessment of nutritional needs and available sources and correlates plans with other programming needs of the people we support
* Communicate effectively with the people we support and their support networks
* Evaluate nutritional care for the people we support and provide follow-up continuity of care plans to ensure overall nutrition needs are met
* Responsible in educating and supporting people and their support networks in nutritional principles, diet, food selection, and economics
* Adapt teaching plans to individual life style of the people we support
* Provide consultation with the people we support and DASCH locations
* Counsel and motivate people as well as groups to optimize health
* Develop and provide nutrition education to staff and the people we support (e.g. grocery store tours, diabetes training, healthy eating, etc.)
* Provide one on one individualized nutritional education to assist the people we support in understanding nutritional values
* Conduct and implement menu reviews of all DASCH locations annually or as requested
* Provide location support in developing balanced menus based on Canada’s Food Guide
* Develop and provide hands on experience cooking classes for the people we support and staff
