Heartland Fertility and Gynecology Clinic is seeking a confident, professional, positive and experienced individual to join our team as a full‑time Andrologist/Laboratory Assistant. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and will act as a member of the interdisciplinary health‑care team. The Andrologist is responsible for the assessment, preparation and preservation of human semen samples for their use in various treatments for infertility and other laboratory duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities- Assess human semen samples for their suitability.
- Perform tests to assess sperm function and provide feedback based on those results as to the potential fertility of the patient.
- Make recommendations as to the most appropriate treatment.
- Prepare fresh and frozen samples for IUI and IVF.
- Prepare and freeze semen samples.
- Maintain the cryobank.
- Ensure that all technical procedures are carried out according to the laboratory procedure manual in a reliable and competent manner.
- Screen communications of the department and act upon them, ensuring the correct identification of specimens and conveying to the Laboratory Director/Lead Embryologist/Andrology and Phlebotomy Team Lead or promptly dealing with any unsuitable specimens.
- Issue provisional reports according to protocol so that delays in transmitting information to the medical staff are minimized.
- Record data on tests/procedures in a clear and concise way, so that all staff members can immediately understand what tests/procedures have been performed and what results obtained.
- Convey any significant abnormal test procedure results to the Laboratory Director (Lead embryologist) or take appropriate action as required.
- Ensure that an adequate inventory of reagents, media and lab supplies are in readiness at all times to perform tests and procedures.
- Bring to the attention of the Laboratory Director/Lead Embryologist any errors detected or made and respond as objectively as possible.
- Use all laboratory equipment according to laboratory protocols and guidelines and report or address actual or potential malfunctions immediately.
- Become familiar with all new or revised procedures as they become available and maintain laboratory currency by regular review of the Laboratory Manual.
- Assist in training new personnel or technologists from other centres in learning laboratory tests/procedures and recording methods.
- Participate in safety programs within the clinic.
- Maintain laboratory QC, inventory, cleanliness, stocking and ordering.
- Perform frequent maintenance, monitoring and repair of essential equipment to ensure optimum operation.
- Participate in continuing education through attendance at internal journal clubs and outside meetings and symposia.
- BSc in Biology or related field of Medical Laboratory Technology including a sound understanding of animal or human physiology.
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification preferred.
- CFAS certification required, or must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
- Recent experience in Andrology/Sperm Handling is an asset.
- Current BCLS.
- Sound understanding of human reproductive biology.
- Excellent fine‑motor skills.

- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under minimal supervision.
