Job Overview
At Bison Transport, our product teams operate using the Product Operating Model—a framework underpinned by Agile methodologies to deliver innovative solutions that drive customer and business value. As a Junior Scrum Master, you will support one or more product teams by ensuring they follow Scrum principles and Agile best practices. Your primary responsibility will be facilitating Agile rituals, maintaining team focus on sprint goals, and helping teams utilize Agile tools effectively.
This role emphasizes foundational Scrum Master responsibilities, focused on guiding teams through Agile practices, ensuring process adherence, and fostering continuous improvement. Unlike senior levels, the Scrum Master role does not include people management duties or coaching across teams but instead focuses on the operational aspects of Scrum.
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, sprint reviews, demos, retrospectives, and backlog refinement, ensuring proper use of Agile tools like Jira and Click Up.
- Help define clear and achievable sprint goals aligned with product roadmaps.
- Guide the team in breaking down stories into manageable tasks that are well‑defined and understood.
- Act as a facilitator for Agile practices, ensuring the team stays focused on its ceremonies and sprint goals.
- Support the team’s use of Agile tools to manage workflows, track progress, and deliver value efficiently.
- Encourage self‑organization within the team, fostering a collaborative, transparent, and accountable environment.
- Promote continuous improvement by helping the team identify improvement areas during retrospectives and by tracking basic Agile metrics.
- Provide basic guidance and coaching to new teams or individuals on Scrum principles.
- Serve as a communication point between the product team and stakeholders, ensuring alignment on sprint goals and deliverables.
- Maintain transparent communication with product leadership on progress, risks, and blockers.
- Foster collaboration within the product team and with adjacent functions to integrate feedback into the backlog.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–2 years of experience in a Scrum Master, project coordination, or team facilitation role, or equivalent academic or project experience with Agile practices.
- Foundational understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) through coursework, certification, or hands‑on project experience.
- Basic experience facilitating project or Scrum ceremonies and supporting teams in Agile environments.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira or Click Up, including basic configuration for team use.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills to help teams work collaboratively and remain focused.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain momentum in a fast‑paced environment.
- Adaptability to change and a proactive approach to managing shifting priorities.
- Background suitability for a career in transportation is wide‑ranging; prior experience in airline, automotive, retail, hospitality, or related industries is valued.
