Reporting to the Lead - Physical Plant Services, the Engineer 5th Class is responsible for monitoring and maintaining building and medical related systems and associated equipment in a 5th class plant. The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods, and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner consistent with the mission, vision and values and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

• Minimum two (2) years' experience working in a maintenance position.
• Previous experience working with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, or air-conditioning.

• Power Engineering - 5th Class Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
• Other suitable combinations of education and experience may be considered.

• Knowledge and understanding of associated equipment and systems in a 5th class plant.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Knowledge of various types of mechanical equipment and their functions.
• Knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of yard care equipment.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and their purpose.
• Knowledge of basic safe work legislation and practices.
• Knowledge of Fire Codes and CSA standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, problem solving, and ability to display independent judgment where appropriate.
• Respect for a culturally diverse population and ability to prioritize in a changing environment.
• Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships and to work in a team as well as independently.
• Ability to perform appropriate calculations as required.
• Proficiency in both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
• Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality in paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
• Good work and attendance record.
• Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.

• Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
• May be required to work in a variety of temperatures, including excessive heat or cold.
• May be required to work with hazardous chemicals.
• May be required to be on call evenings and weekends as necessary.
• Will be required to respond to the facility within 20 minutes of being notified when on call.
• May travel to other regional facilities as duties may require.
