Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for installing and servicing various plant systems, including safety and security, energy delivery (hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical), communication, and process control systems? If so, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Red Seal Instrument Technician to install and service measuring and indicating instruments to monitor processes and equipment.

What will you be doing!
  • Working from, reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Producing material take‑offs and labour estimates from drawings and sketches.
  • Initiating service requests and coordinating repairs with customers, other trades, powerhouse, or the design staff.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing electronic/electrical, pneumatic and microprocessor‑based systems and test equipment.
  • Scheduling work, ordering materials, and specifying new equipment.
  • Collaborating with other departments and other roles in the organization, as well as contractors.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Must hold a Red Seal certificate in Instrument and Controls Technician.
  • Experience
    • Five (5) years or more would be an asset.
    • Experience in a wide variety of industrial and commercial work environments.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrated proficiency in using and applying applicable codes, regulations, and bylaws.
    • Good comprehension skills in interpreting drawings and code specifications.
    • Good planning and organisational skills.
    • Effective communication skills, especially when working with customers.
    • Demonstrated teamwork skills when working on large projects with co‑workers.
    • Highly motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
    • Problem‑solving abilities to change installation techniques to on‑site working conditions.
    • Eye‑hand coordination, dexterity and the ability to plan and think sequentially as well as three‑dimensionally.
    • Knowledge of metallurgy and the effectiveness of the equipment being used.
    • Ability to operate various hand and power tools and determine the most appropriate means of proceeding with the work.
    • Ability to determine how equipment operates by looking at a diagram or blueprint.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3‑5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom
      . CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four‑day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
  • Must possess physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Ability to wear and work in a respirator and other protective equipment.
  • Some exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards.
  • Work in environments that require personal protective equipment and clothing including construction/decommissioning sites, contamination zones and potentially confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from +30°C to
    -40°C.
