Position OverviewReporting to the Lead - Physical Plant Services, the Engineer 5th Class is responsible for monitoring and maintaining building and medical related systems and associated equipment in a 5th class plant.
The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Responsibilities- Monitor and maintain building and medical related systems and associated equipment in a 5th class plant.
- Determine work priorities and methods with appropriate initiative and independent judgment.
- Act in accordance with the organization’s mission, vision, values, and policies.
- Minimum two (2) years' experience working in a maintenance position.
- Previous experience working with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, or air-conditioning.
- Power Engineering - 5th Class Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
- Other suitable combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Qualifications and Skills- Knowledge of equipment and systems in a 5th class plant; ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of various mechanical equipment and their functions; maintenance and operation of yard care equipment.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, safe work legislation and practices;
Fire Codes and CSA standards. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook.
- Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Strong written and oral communication, problem solving, and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Respect for culturally diverse populations; ability to prioritize and build professional relationships.
- Ability to perform calculations; respect confidentiality across formats.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and an all-purpose insured vehicle with liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.
- Meet the physical and mental demands of the job; may work in various temperatures and with hazardous chemicals.
- On-call evenings and weekends as necessary; respond to the facility within 20 minutes when on call.
- May travel to other regional facilities as duties require.
