Purpose of PositionUnder the direction of the Director – Facilities and Operations, the Utilities Coordinator will work closely with the Utility Supervisor to ensure that the Division’s buildings and facilities are maintained in excellent operating condition and that all building systems run efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Working in conjunction with the Utilities Supervisor, manages the Division’s mechanical and utility equipment in all facilities and ensures they are maintained and in good working condition.
- Utilizes the Division work order system in reviewing/coordinating dispatched work.
- Maintains accurate asset inventory of all utility equipment.
- Maintains records of work performed on mechanical systems.
- Provides and manages a preventative maintenance schedule and liaises with school staff.
- Visits all facilities on a regular basis to verify/identify equipment issues.
- Makes appropriate arrangements or recommendations for system replacements or large repairs.
- Coordinates with facility maintenance staff when multiple trades are needed for tasks.
- Ensures that general maintenance work is done and emergency repairs are completed in a timely manner.
- Assists with lighting and mechanical rebate programs and procurement of maintenance supplies as needed.
- Provides support to the Utilities supervisor with large capital projects as needed.
- Supports utility maintenance employees.
- Ensures the worksite is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.
- Works cooperatively with other divisional staff and contractors.
- Provides relief for the Utility Supervisor during absences as needed.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the department.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to defuse conflict and deal with complaint and concerns effectively and professionally.
- Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with confidential information.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Experience in commercial construction, mechanical site coordination or institutional facility management.
- Experience in managing preventive maintenance.
- Working knowledge of general commercial practices and techniques.
- Working knowledge of office computer systems (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of maintenance work software.
- Journeyman Status in mechanical trade skills and/or Post Secondary Degree in Facilities Management.
- Prior experience in an educational environment.
- Experience in Workplace Safety and Health.

- Work involves some standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

- On occasion it may be required to work beyond normal working hours, with little, short or no notice.
- A weekend or evening shift may be required as needed.
