PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

• Undergraduate Bachelor’s degree required (Indigenous education, community development, and/or business management preferred).
• An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

• Five years’ experience in supervising and mentoring Indigenous youth and young adults and managing complex programming is required.
• A minimum of two years’ work experience working with Indigenous communities and demonstrated understanding of impact of colonization, racism, geography, and poverty on social determinants of health is required.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity around cultural protocols required.
• Program budget experience is required.
• Demonstrated cultural competency skills and experience related to working with Indigenous youth and communities required.
• Strong long-term relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations in Winnipeg and Manitoba required.
• Experience training and coaching Indigenous youth and community staff to achieve varied goals and tasks is required.
• Knowledge and experience of the Indigenous Youth Mentorship Program is a definite asset.
• Experience in community development and programming, event planning, advocacy, community relations, or program development is required.
• Experience in relationship building with school and community partners for education and training programs is required.
• Knowledge of University policies, purchasing, and accounting is preferred.
• Experience and ability to independently make decisions in a timely fashion is required.
• An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Program budget management, funder reports, youth-friendly program evaluation and data collection is required.
• Supervisory and leadership/mentorship experience, particularly with Indigenous youth and marginalized groups is required.
• Cultural competency and understanding of public and post-secondary education, Indigenous organizations, intercultural power dynamics, mediation, and team building is required.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and establish work priorities and deadlines is a complex and fast-paced work environment is required.
• Excellent communications skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate in an articulate, knowledgeable, and diplomatic manner are required.
• Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
• Ability to make sound independent judgments and utilize problem solving abilities is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and the public in a diplomatic, firm and tactful manner is required.
• Ability to create and manage schedules for programs, facilities, and staff is required.
• Proficiency in using advanced features associated with Microsoft Office required.
• Experience with staff hiring and training is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise the work of other employees is required.
• Ability to handle and manage stress quickly and positively is required.
• Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
