This opportunity is at our Selkirk Mill Gerdau location and is a month term position starting in May and ending in August.

Co-op/Intern - Electrical / Electronic Eng. Technologist

Responsibilities:

Following on-the-job training and orientation, our successful candidate may:

  • Update equipment / facility drawings
  • Work with outside vendors and consultants, assist in managing contractors
  • Assist Engineers on capex improvement projects
  • Works closely with and supports electrical planner
  • Manage smaller non-capex projects
  • Plan electrical jobs and order parts
  • Revise "As built" drawings to reflect any changes made during electrical installation
  • Compare redline markups from elecricians with the original design and apply necessary updates
  • Add electrical drawings from completed projects in the drawing version control system used by the organization
  • Assist in selecting sensors (proximity, phototelectric, temperature, flow, pressure) and actuators (solenoids, motors, valves)
  • Assist in full system start-up and commissioning, correcting minor issues under supervision
  • Identify and report safety hazards in the workplace
  • Requirements:

  • Have completed at least one year of a diploma from a recognized college in an Electrical / Electronic Eng Technology discipline
  • Record of high academic achievement (Minimum GPA .; preferred GPA . or higher)
  • Experience with AutoCAD design software, PLC's and automation would be a benefit
  • Ability to inerpret / understand wiring schematics, basic control diagrams, basic motor control circuits
  • Profiency with Microsoft Office
  • Well-rounded applicants with leadership roles in student organizations or extra-curricular activities
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the Canada without requiring current or future sponsorship for employment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with great organizational qualities
  • Ability to work independently and be a fast-learner
