A Day in Life
The Production Technician (Laboratory) will perform laboratory testing safely and accurately, collate test results, and maintain laboratory equipment and chemical supplies. They will provide operational assistance to the Production Department.
The schedule for this role is Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm, the hourly rate is $34.79.
What You’ll Be Doing- Comply with all government and corporate safety requirements.
- Comply with regulatory requirements and customer audits including CFIA, HACCP, AIB and others.
- In the absence of QA supervisor, authorize release of product and issue certificate of analysis.
- Conduct laboratory tests on raw materials, in process and finished products using wet chemistry and analytical instruments.
- Ensure compliance with Bunge safety policies by production staff and contractors at all times.
- Lead by example to ensure that safety culture is a natural part of operations and continually strive for a zero‑incident operation.
- Perform analytical tests for all incoming raw materials, in process and finished products.
- Assure that product meets or exceeds standards set by the company, Provincial/Federal governments, and customers.
- Follow and demonstrate all quality and food safety programs, including GMPs, Pest Control, HACCP, SOPs, Good Laboratory Practices, and the Food Security program.
- Provide accurate reports to departments and customers in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, orderly and safe workplace.
- Observe safe and proper work habits, including wearing proper laboratory and safety garments such as smocks, disposable gloves, eye protection and face mask (as necessary).
- Record all analysis on appropriate log sheets.
- Replenish chemical solutions as needed; monitor and report on laboratory inventories.
- Conduct lab equipment calibrations.
- Train new lab technicians/operators in performing required analysis.
- Properly set up and operate laboratory equipment effectively.
- Demonstr good communication skills.
- Commit to supply safe food, maintain a food‑safety culture within the site, continually improve the site’s food‑safety management system, and comply with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as required by a supervisor/manager.
- Effectiveness of quality control testing.

- Ability to perform all related tasks.
- A certificate, diploma, or a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Chemistry, or Food Science with a minimum of 2 years in laboratory/chemical technology from an accredited post‑secondary institution.
- Knowledge of AOCS procedures, HACCP, Food Safety, and other regulatory requirements of Canada and the U.S.
- Experience with wet chemistry and instrumentation, analysis of vegetable oils, fatty acid compositions, and other characteristics as required by customers.
- Familiarity with laboratory testing concepts, safe handling of hazardous materials, and basic statistics in the applied sciences.
- Ability to plan, organize, and work in a systematic manner under minimum supervision.
- Ability to think independently and use critical judgment on product quality, certification, and customer collaborative test results in the absence of the laboratory supervisor.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of computers, and application software.
- Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of hourly staff and management across various departments.
- Ability to work at heights, enter confined spaces and operate around equipment.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
- Working in this environment requires the mandatory use of safety equipment, including but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats.
- Suitable to work in extraction facilities where hexane and other chemicals are used.
