MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in communications or in a related discipline, is required.
- Training in communications, stewardship, or public relations is an asset.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum one year of directly related experience required, preferably in a non‑profit or fundraising environment.
- Experience in event planning preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Proficiency using advanced features of word processing software, Microsoft Excel, Raiser’s Edge (or equivalent fundraising software) required.
- Superior oral and written communication skills are required, including strong interview skills.
- Ability to learn new computer software quickly required.
- Must be highly organized and meticulous with detail.
- Must be able to work under timelines and pressure.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a team environment is required.
- A professional demeanour and the ability to adapt to a demanding work environment required.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Communications, Marketing & Stewardship
- Produces the Planned Giving unit’s print newsletter and e-newsletter:
- set s the content
- seek s out and interview s donors, students, deans, directors and admin staff
- writ es , edit s and approv es articles
- seek s interviewees’ approvals
- delegat es articles to other communications staff as necessary
- liais es with external production staff including designers, printers and emailing experts.
- Gathers material for the Planned Giving portion of the monthly External Relations e-newsletter.
- Maintains the Planned Giving website.
- Compiles and reviews all web activity.
- Alerts IT and Communications staff to broken links or other issues.
- Researches, writes and edits articles for posting.
- Compiles updated material related to PG marketing and gift vehicles and writes updated postings.
- Periodically audits the current website layout and research related external sites for ideas to improve the PG site.
- Monitors activity on the planned giving website and based on website activity trends, independently researches and develops marketing, communication and advertising plans for the Planned Giving website.
- Assists with the production of the annual Isbister Legacy Society luncheon which is attended by donors, the President, Chancellor, Vice‑Presidents, Deans and senior administrative staff.
- Plans all Planned Giving donor recognition events and Planned Giving information sessions, courses and workshops.
- Occasionally provides guidance, advice and support to other staff who are planning donor events, or helps organize stewardship events such as area naming, plaque unveilings, etc.
- Consults the stewardship and marketing and communication teams to promote the Planned Giving program through internal advertising, marketing, publications and other Department of Development vehicles.
- Works with the annual Giving Manager to promote planned giving in internal advertising and external advertising, marketing and other donor relations vehicles.
- Creates and produces mass contacts with donors, including but not limited to:
- holiday greetings
- mid‑winter greetings
- regular newsletters
- summer greetings
- post‑ILS luncheon packages
- spring mailings
- Responsible for Isbister Legacy Society member stewardship including production, coordination of signing by the President and Chancellor, and mailing of certificates, letters and welcome kits, as well as other stewardship initiatives in consultation with the Director of Planned Giving.
- Liaises with donors, alumni and friends by phone, email and at university functions as appropriate.
