Position Overview

Under the general direction of PHCC Director Health Services as part of the multidisciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) applies advanced nursing and medical theory to the provision of clinical care. Responsibilities include autonomously ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents, and performing minor invasive procedures. The NP also integrates medical knowledge, contributes to the advancement of nursing practice, collaborates with staff and patients, and provides problem‑solving support within the multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
  • Applies advanced nursing and medical theory to the provision of clinical care, autonomously ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacologic agents, and performing minor invasive procedures.
  • Applies current/relevant nursing and medical theory, contributing to knowledge and advancing the nursing profession.
  • Incorporates medical and advanced nursing knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates competence to practice autonomously, plan, implement, and evaluate complex care, and to teach others.
  • Provides problem solving among staff or between staff and patients, and collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team.
  • Applies skills in consultation, collaboration, and systems management to provide effective care.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years direct or virtual clinical experience preferred and considered an asset.
Education
  • Masters of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Stream or equivalent educational preparation approved by CRNM required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Maintain and provide proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations such as Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training in accordance with Employer policy.

  • Follow Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Advanced nursing care knowledge related to health assessment, diagnostics, pharmacotherapeutics, and invasive and minor surgical procedures.
  • Understand and apply regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Know Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions), and other legislated acts.
