Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager Health Services - Surgery and in collaboration with the Department Head of Anesthesia, the Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) assumes a leadership role in coordinating patient care within the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care outcomes, and promote an interdisciplinary patient-centered approach to care based on best practice. The Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for providing clinical nursing care to pre-, intra- and post-operative surgical patients undergoing an anesthetic procedure.

This includes pre‑anesthetic assessments, preparing patients for anesthesia, assisting the anesthesiologist during surgery, and maintaining and procuring equipment and supplies. The CRN screens patient charts for needs, performs pre‑operative anesthesia risk assessments—including obtaining detailed medical history, patient physical examinations, airway assessment, reviewing consults, labs, diagnostic tests and EKGs. The CRN assists the anesthesiologist with induction, airway management, intra‑operative monitoring and post‑operative follow‑up, and is directly involved with teaching and in‑servicing nursing and support staff.

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years recent related clinical experience in Anesthesia Nursing or ICU Nursing required.
  • Minimum 3 years recent related surgery experience preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree preferred.
Certification / Licensure / Registration
  • Current CRNM registration required.
  • Current BCLS required.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish IVs and set up and interpret invasive monitoring required.
  • Demonstrated patient/family teaching ability required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively with other health disciplines required.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to work independently required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Ability to complete the job on a regular & consistent basis required.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
